How Do 2-Win NFL Teams Finish the Following Year?
Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

With the NFL Combine in Indianapolis set for February 26 through March 4, teams have already begun the process of draft evaluations and off-season team workouts, all pointing to how they can get better and improve as a team for the 2024 regular season.

Some teams have a little bit more work to do, such as the Carolina Panthers. Fans are looking forward to NFL betting and are hoping they can have more faith in the Panthers winning games next season.

Panthers fans are aware of their team’s struggles during the 2023-2024 season that resulted in a 2-15 record. But NFL history suggests that there is a silver lining to ending the season with only two wins. BetCarolina.com used ProFootballReference.com to compile each 2-win team since 2010 and looked at how they fared during their next season.

Here are the results:

Will the Panthers playoff chances be more favorable next season?

Over the past 13 seasons, every team on the lists improved their win total with the smallest uptick to three games by the Tennessee Titans (2014) and the largest by nine games to 11 by the Indianapolis Colts (2011) and the Kansas City Chiefs (2012).

All teams during that span had an average of 6.7 wins per season (4.7 game increase).

Unfortunately, the Panthers have been in this position before and saw an increase of four wins to six back in 2010.

Looking Ahead

With opportunities to build around second-year quarterback Bryce Young and with a new head coach Dave Canales now at the helm, the Panthers have a total of six picks in the upcoming NFL Draft in Detroit (April 25-27). The Panthers did have the overall No. 1 draft position however the Chicago Bears hold that pick now as part of a trade that sent DJ Moore and the 2023 No. 1 overall pick to Carolina (where they drafted Young).

They have the second-round pick (37), a third-round pick (69), a fourth-round pick (101), two fifth-rounders (132 from the Titans, 159 from the San Francisco 49ers) and a sixth-rounder (161 from the Arizona Cardinals).

With sports betting coming to the Tar Heel State in mid-March, here are the two future odds over at DraftKings (10:30 a.m. ET) on Tuesday, Feb. 20:

Panthers Super Bowl odds: longest shot on the board at +25000
To win the NFC: longest shot on the board at +13000

Despite those early numbers, all signs point to an improved energy, mindset, and optimism in Charlotte for the upcoming future.
