The Commission reported $63,215,572 in gross wagering revenue for July and $14,038,810 in estimated tax proceeds. The report's calculation accounts for cancelled or void wagers and amounts paid as winnings before deductions for expenses, fees or taxes.

Where Sports Betting Tax Proceeds Go

After administrative costs and reimbursements, state law directs the tax proceeds to several programs. Fixed allocations include $2 million annually for gambling addiction education and treatment, $1 million for North Carolina Amateur Sports, $1 million for the North Carolina Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission, and $300,000 annually for each of 13 state university athletic departments. Of the remaining proceeds, 20 percent is split evenly among those same 13 universities, 30 percent goes to the North Carolina Major Events, Games and Attractions Fund, and 50 percent goes to the state's General Fund.
