Pyotr Kochetkov Makes NHL History for the Hurricanes

Pyotr Kochetkov spent the start of the season turning the Hurricanes crease into a history lesson. The Carolina goaltender won his first 10 games, becoming only the third goalie in NHL history to open a season with that many consecutive victories. Carolina's strong start has made the team an early Stanley Cup contender, a storyline reflected in the NC sports betting futures market.

Kochetkov Joins Campbell and Price in the Record Books

Kochetkov stopped 26 shots in a 7-0 win over Winnipeg on Nov. 1, his second shutout of the season and the 13th of his NHL career. The victory improved his record to 10-0-0 and put him alongside Jack Campbell, who won 11 straight to open the 2020-21 season for Toronto, and Carey Price, who won 10 to open the 2016-17 season for Montreal.

The milestone also gave Kochetkov the longest winning streak by a goaltender in Hurricanes franchise history. He surpassed the previous mark of nine consecutive wins, shared by Brandon Bussi and Cam Ward.

The Streak Ends, the Winning Does Not

Kochetkov's run ended on Nov. 3, when Nashville beat Carolina 4-1 for his first loss of the season. The Hurricanes bounced back two nights later with a 5-3 win at the New York Islanders, improving to 13-3-2.

Brandon Bussi made 24 saves in that victory. He gives Carolina another goaltender with a history of lengthy winning streaks, having recorded two separate nine-game runs during the 2025-26 season.

Hurricanes Odds for the 2027 Stanley Cup

Carolina is +600 to win the 2027 Stanley Cup at DraftKings North Carolina, representing implied odds of approximately 14.3%. The latest Hurricanes odds also list the team at +310 to win the Eastern Conference (24.4%) and -190 to win the Metropolitan Division (65.5%). The playoff market is currently off the board.

What Goaltending Means for Carolina

A hot goalie can make a major difference over the course of a season, and Carolina has seen strong performances from both Kochetkov and Bussi. Kochetkov's historic start adds to the team's early momentum, while Bussi's previous success gives the Hurricanes another proven option in net.

With 13 wins through their first 18 games, the Hurricanes have put themselves in a strong position early. Maintaining that level of play will be the challenge as Carolina looks to defend its Stanley Cup title.
