What Is North Carolina’s Best College Football Program?
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

Few states have pumped out the level of consistent quality on the gridirons of the Football Bowl Subdivision level of college football than North Carolina’s four main colleges over the last decade.

Among the Tar Heel State’s four Atlantic Coast Conference members (Duke, North Carolina State, UNC and Wake Forest), there’s been no shortage of success, with each team making at least six bowl games and posting .500 or better records over the course of the past decade-plus.

In all, it will be plenty to consider for customers of NC sports betting when it debuts next year.

While none of the four has reached the CFP, all but NC State have secured a 10-win season, with the Wolfpack winning nine games three times (2017, 2018 and 2021).

With Duke, UNC and NC State all sitting at 3-2 in ACC play (and Wake at 1-5), BetCarolina.com – your source for North Carolina betting apps - figured now is the right time to discern which in-state program has been the best over the last 10 years. To do so, weutilized Sports-Reference.com to look at the records for the four biggest college football programs in recent years.

Do the Numbers Bring on a Clear Winner?

While none of North Carolina’s ACC members has been otherworldly on the gridiron over the last 10 years, it’s safe to say that each has seen its fair share of triumphs of late.

The best North Carolina ACC team by win percentage since 2013 is NC State, which has posted a .578 figure, beating out UNC (.540) and Duke (.526). When broken down by bowl berths, three teams (UNC, NC State and Wake Forest) all share the title, with seven apiece. Duke has made it six times since 2013. The Wolfpack have the most wins (78) since 2013, while UNC (74) and Duke (71) are the only others to eclipse the 70-victory mark over the past decade. Wake Forest sits at 67 during that stretch.

This year, oddsmakers from Caesars Sportsbook list the Tar Heels as the top candidate to win the ACC of the four, with +6000 odds (ranking behind FSU’s -350 and Louisville’s +280). NC State and Duke come in at +15000 and Wake is not listed.
