North Carolina sports betting kept its momentum rolling in April, posting $612.5 million in total wagers, a 6.3% increase compared to the same month last year. It was also the seventh time in the last eight months that the state's handle cleared the $600 million mark, a sign that bettors across North Carolina are consistently engaged regardless of the sports calendar.
April Revenue Rises Alongside Strong Betting Activity
North Carolina sportsbooks continued posting strong numbers throughout April, fueled by MLB action, the Masters, NBA playoff betting, and the Carolina Hurricanes’ postseason run. Operators reported $64.5 million in gross wagering revenue for the month, up 37.6% year over year, while sportsbooks held 8.2% of all wagers placed.
North Carolina State Lottery Commission also reported that the state collected approximately $11.6 million in sports betting tax revenue during April alone. Since July 2025, North Carolina has now generated more than $121 million in total sports betting tax revenue.
$600 Million Club: Seven of the Last Eight Months
April marked the seventh time in eight months that North Carolina's monthly handle exceeded $600 million. That kind of consistent volume puts North Carolina firmly among the more active sports betting markets in the country, with NC betting apps showing no signs of slowing down.
NC Operators Keep Spending on Promos
North Carolina sportsbook promos remained aggressive in April as operators continued competing for user engagement across the state. FanDuel, DraftKings North Carolina, BetMGM, Fanatics, Caesars, bet365, and theScore Bet NC combined to spend roughly $18 million on promotional wagering during the month, down slightly from March but still a significant investment in bonuses, odds boosts, parlay insurance, and same-game parlay offers. The competitive market shows no signs of operators easing up on promotions as they continue fighting for market share in one of the more active states in the country.
