What Will Wake Forest’s Final Record Be?

What Will Wake Forest’s Final Record Be?
Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

The Wake Forest football program kicks off the 2023 football season on Aug. 31 hosting the Elon Phoenix. The Demon Deacons were 8-5 overall last season, respectable across sports betting in North Carolina, but only 3-5 in their ACC Conference games, a disappointing season overall.

With the new season about to fire up, BetCarolina.com was interested in their potential record for the season.

The Deacons are a long shot at +6000 to win the ACC at DraftKings Sportsbook North Carolina, an unlikely way for bettors to make money.

With these odds in mind, BetCarolina.com decided to make their own hypothetical odds on what the Wake Forest football team's record will be.

Demon Deacons May Be Bound For .500 Season

Despite the 8-5 performance last year, a 6-6 record appears to be the most likely scenario for the Deamon Deacons in 2023 on incoming North Carolina betting apps. The fight for the top of the ACC seems quite simple and it doesn’t involve Wake Forest. Clemson and Florida State seem to be heads and tails above the rest of the teams, with Clemson +145 to win the conference and Florida State +150.

Louisville and North Carolina lead the second tier and eight teams in the conference have shorter odds than Wake Forest.

While they aren’t favorites in the conference, Wake Forest has consistently played winning football, having a winning record in six of the past seven seasons. This trend makes the hypothetical +300 odds on 5-7 and the +550 odds on 4-8 a seemingly risky proposition. But +230 on a 6-6 record seems to be fair, as does the +300 mark on a slight winning record of 7-5. For the best North Carolina sportsbook promos ahead of the launch, keep tabs on BetCarolina.com.

Mitch Griffis quarterbacks the offense, one that always seems to be solid under head coach Dave Clawson. Getting protection from the offensive line may be tough but if they can block, a big season should be in store for Griffis as well as running back Justice Ellison.

The receiving core is an experienced group with Jahmal Banks, Ke’Shawn Williams and Taylor Morin all returning to the program.

Defense doesn’t shape up to be quite as reliable, with a strong pass rush the only true strength. The secondary struggled last year, grabbing less than ten interceptions. With an offense that’s comfortable getting into shootout-style games, a couple key third down stops by the defense and some well-timed turnovers could have a big impact on the teams final record.

The Demon Deacons will be in tough against a few high-powered opponents this year, but as long as Griffis can keep the ball moving for this offense the team is set up to score against anyone. A solid improvement from the defense could make a winning record for Wake Forest a mere formality.
