With the 2024 college football season officially returning this weekend, itâs worth considering the year ahead and wondering which schools could be primed for historic falls across the country.
Whether itâs an upstart program like the Ole Miss Rebels of the SEC or a nouveau blue blood like the Oregon Ducks (now in the Big Ten), there are a handful of teams that appear primed for seasons that few will forget in the months ahead.
For the Rebels, a weak strength of schedule (ranked 41st in the FBS by CollegeFootballNetwork.com) should allow Lane Kiffinâs team to enter conference play with a 4-0 record. Ole Miss plays Furman, Middle Tennessee State and Georgia Southern in Oxford, with a lone non-conference road game in Winston-Salem against Wake Forest.
Given that weak slate of opponents, itâs likely of little surprise to learn that the Rebels have the seventh lowest CFP odds on DraftKings Sportsbook North Carolina, at -130, behind programs like Ohio State (-650), Georgia (-600), Oregon (-300), Texas (-230), Notre Dame (-160) and Penn State (-140).
With all that in mind, BetCarolina.com put together some hypothetical odds on which CFB team could be the last unbeaten team in the nation, with the Rebels, Ducks, and Bulldogs leading the way.

Which Power Four School Will Be Last Unbeaten Team in 2024?
Right now, we believe that Kiffin and the Rebels have the best odds of going undefeated the longest, thanks in large part to Ole Miss not having to play a team ranked in the AP preseason top 25 until they head to Death Valley to play 13th-ranked LSU on Oct. 12.
Thatâs why we have the Rebels at +800 to be the last unbeaten Power Four team standing in 2024, ranking ahead of the Ducks and Buckeyes, who are both listed at +900, while the Georgia Bulldogs (+1000), Missouri Tigers (+1200), UNC Tar Heels, Washington Huskies and Miami Hurricanes (+1250 each) are the next closest programs.
For Oregon, Dan Lanningâs squad faces its first ranked team in Week 6 of the CFB season, when No. 2 Ohio State comes to Autzen Stadium, while the Buckeyesâ first challenge comes the week prior, when No. 25 Iowa comes to the Horseshoe.
For the Bulldogs, their season opener in Atlanta is a ranked clash, with UGA playing No. 14 Clemson on Aug. 31. Missouri's first ranked foe is Texas A&M, as Eliah Drinkwitzâs team heads to College Station to play the 20th-ranked Aggies on Oct. 5.
North Carolinaâs first ranked clash under Mack Brownâs watch in 2024 is on Nov. 2, when the Tar Heels play the No. 10 ranked FSU Seminoles at Doak Campbell Stadium, while other longshots like Washington (Oct. 5 vs. No. 9 Michigan) and Miami (Oct. 26 vs. No. 10 FSU) have varying wait times before they play a ranked team this season.
Throw in extreme longshots like the Cincinnati Bearcats of the Big 12 (+1750), plus the Indiana Hoosiers, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Maryland Terrapins of the Big Ten (+2000 apiece) and you have the full rundown of the Power Four teams with the best odds of going unbeaten the longest in 2024.
For now, college football fans can sit back and enjoy the show. Four games are taking place on Saturday, starting with an ACC showdown in Dublin, Ireland, between the No. 10 ranked Seminoles and Georgia Tech at noon Eastern time on ESPN, followed by games between Montana State and New Mexico (on FS1 at 4 p.m.), SMU and Nevada-Reno (on CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m.) and Delaware State and Hawaii (at 11:59 p.m.).
