UNC finished the season ranked No. 5 in the country with an overall record of 27-7, the best in the ACC. The Tar Heels stumbled at the end of the ACC Tournament, losing to the 10th-ranked NC State Wolfpack.

North Carolina's basketball roster went through significant changes in the offseason, with only four scholarship players from last year still on the team.
