How the UConn Huskies Won 2024 March Madness

UConn Huskies team celebrates after victory with coach Dan Hurley

UConn's roster is loaded with players who have more tournament experience than any team left, and they play with exceptional chemistry.

UConn finished the season ranked 9th in the NCAA in scoring defense, allowing just 63.4 points per game. Coupled with the 23rd-best offensive production, a mix of solid offense and stout defense was a recipe for major success.

At 31-3 on the regular season, the Huskies had long been the favorite to win the East Regionβ€”and the National Championship.

UConn routed Stetson 91-52 in the tournament's first game, handled Northwestern 75-58 to advance to the Sweet 16, crushed Illinois 77-52 in the Elite Eight and put away Alabama 86-72 in the Final Four.

The defending National Champions were led by head coach Dan Hurley and experienced senior guards Cam Spencer and Tristian Newton, both of whom average over 14 points a game. Three potential first-round NBA draft picks (center Donovan Clingan, guard Stephon Castle, forward Alex Karaban) brought additional firepower for the Huskies to compete with any team in college basketball.

  • March Madness Futures March Madness futures are fun to play because they allow you options to bet on a variety of teams. If you have a few long-shot teams and one or two of them make it to the Sweet 16 or Elite Eight, you have great hedging opportunities. Or you can bet on second-tier contenders, like Marquette and Illinois.
  • March Madness Spreads March Madness spreads are exciting because they are available on every game. You are betting on which team will cover the spread, not win the game outright, so even a No. 16 seed has a chance to cover against a No. 1 seed, for example.
  • March Madness Props March Madness prop bets allow you to bet on specific things for players in games, such as how many rebounds or points a player will have. You can bet on Purdue's Zach Edey to go over/under 17.5 points, for example. This allows bettors to exploit certain matchups within the game.
  • March Madness Bracket Challenges March Madness bracket challenges are a fun way to get a little skin in the game. You select the winner of all 63 games of the tournament before it begins and then get to follow along as the tournament rolls along. If you need suggestions for your March Madness bracket names, we've got you covered.
