America's Most Boring Cities: Raleigh Ranks Fifth

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Big cities are known for their hustle and bustle, drawing people in who crave excitement, variety, and entertainment. But bigger isn’t always better, or at least not for Raleigh, North Carolina. In fact, if you ask Reddit (and we did), Raleigh is the fifth most boring city in the country.

On a quest to find America’s most unremarkable metropolitan area, BetCarolina.com - your home for North Carolina sports betting - surveyed 600 U.S. residents via the subreddit r/AskReddit, asking users to choose the most boring US city from amongst the country’s top 50 most populous urban centers. Raleigh is the 5th-Most Boring City in America?

As mentioned, the Redditors ranked Raleigh the fifth most boring city in America. But at least, there are four cities even more boring. Indianapolis takes the number one spot in our poll, earning 5.5% of the total votes. Meanwhile, the Southwest is looking particularly sleepy, claiming spots two through four with with San Jose (5.2%), Phoenix (4.3%), and Houston (4%) being named among the top five most boring U.S. cities.

Further down the list, you’ll find such hum drum destinations as Dallas, TX and Jacksonville, FL tied at six with 3.7% of the vote. Meanwhile dullsville's Columbus, OH (3.3%), Omaha, NE (3.2%), and Bakersfield, CA (3.0%) round out the top ten most boring cities in America.

Despite its appearance amongst the most boring cities in the country, Raleigh residents shouldn’t feel too disheartened. After all, Reddit is rife with overreaction and harsh opinions. In fact, whether you’re a visitor or a lifelong resident, there’s a lot of fun to be had in the City of Oaks.

As North Carolina’s capital, Raleigh hosts the state’s Art, History, and Natural Science museums. Those looking for some excitement this summer can check out the upcoming Dueling Dinosaurs exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, or attend one of the upcoming outdoor concerts at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Maybe you think museums are boring too. If so we recommend booking a ride on the Trolley Pub, a peddle-powered party bike that takes you through downtown Raleigh on a trolley as you sip back a cold beer.

If you happen to be looking for some excitement this weekend, the fourth annual Dreamville Fest will touch down in Raleigh on April 6th and 7th. Founded by North Carolina’s own J. Cole, the two-day event will see the acclaimed rapper headline alongside SZA, Chris Brown, Nicky Minaj, and more big names from the world of hip hop.

Meanwhile, Raleigh sports fans have lots to look forward to in the coming weeks, especially with North Carolina sportsbook apps live! The PNC Center is sure to be rocking this April as the Carolina Hurricanes have already secured a berth in the NHL post-season. And who knows, the city may be throwing a massive party if the NC State Wolfpack can emerge from the final four as National NCAA basketball champs. There’s certainly nothing boring about that.
