He has also found ways to simplify the passing game to get receivers in space. Xavier Leggette appears to be good to go after suffering a minor injury last week and Diontae Johnson should be able to find space in a middle-of-the-pack Falcons secondary. 

Despite losing last week to the Chicago Bears, Chubba Hubbard rushed for 97 yards and a TD on only 13 carries. If the Panthers want to beat the Falcons they will need to keep the Falcons offense off the field.

On defense, the Falcons have had success shutting down opposing passing offenses, as they did to Carolina last year. They rank 8th in completion percentage allowed and 9th in yards allowed per pass. Look for them to frustrate Andy Dalton in the passing game.

The Carolina Panthers are coming off a bad loss to the Chicago Bears that exposed holes in both the offense and the defense. In week 3, the team appeared to be revived after moving to Andy Dalton at QB, convincingly beating the Raiders, and playing a competitive game with a good Cincinnati Bengals team. 

The Atlanta Falcons are coming off an emotional overtime win against Tampa Bay on Thursday Night Football and appear to be finding their stride this season. Kirk Cousins appears to be fully recovered from his Achilles injury that ended his 2023 season and went over 500 passing yards. 

If the Falcons are firing on all cylinders, it's hard to see how the Panthers contain their offensive weapons and if Andy Dalton is not able to get the Panthers off to a fast start, this game could get out of hand quickly.

• Sept. 30, 2012: Atlanta wins, 30-28 With the rise of Cam Newton, who grew up in the Atlanta area, the rivalry between Carolina and Atlanta started heating up. • Oct. 30, 2022: Atlanta wins, 37-34 (OT) Only a year ago, this rivalry game became an instant classic as a thrilling overtime victory for the Falcons. Despite struggling all game, the Panthers engineered an improbable comeback. QB PJ Walker famously threw a Hail Mary to WR DJ Moore to presumably end the game. But Panthers kicker Eddy Piñiero missed the extra point, sending the game to overtime. Piñiero missed another FG in OT, and the Falcons went on to win.
