Diontae Johnson Trade Destinations: Odds For Panthers’ Wide Receiver To Be Traded

Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

The Carolina Panthers playoff chances are very dim for the 2024-25 NFL season and the franchise is firmly enmeshed in an ongoing rebuild. So it’s worth wondering whether the team will opt to deal veterans like 28-year-old wide receiver Diontae Johnson.

The former Toledo receiver has done his part for the struggling Panthers in his first season since he arrived in Carolina. He has 30 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns, leading the team in all three categories and building on an 84-game NFL career where he has accumulated an approximate value of 36, per Pro-Football-Reference.com.

The Panthers are an 8.5-point road underdog against the lowly Denver Broncos in Week 7 for those using the BetMGM bonus code North Carolina. BetCarolina.com broke down the hypothetical odds on where Diontae Johnson might play next.

Where Will Diontae Johnson Play Next?

Less than a month until the NFL’s Nov. 5 trade deadline, the odds are still against the Panthers opting to move Johnson, who has only played seven games with the team. We say Carolina holds +275 odds (a 26.7% implied chance) of keeping the veteran in the Queen City through the end of the season.

North Carolina sportsbooks offer a wide variety of NFL wagers, but these odds are produced just for BetCarolina.com.

Should Carolina opt to trade Johnson, the No. 1 suitor for the receiver’s services could be the Washington Commanders. We list them at +550 odds, or a 15.4% chance. The Commanders have been one of the league's surprises this season, sitting atop the NFC East at 5-2. On Sunday they routed the Panthers 40-7. Terry McLaurin leads Washington with 35 catches for 454 yards and four touchdowns, but the next two players on the team's reception chart are tight end Zach Ertz and running back Austin Ekeler. Another quality receiver could help the Commanders offense, which has already been prolific with a league-high 218 points (tied with Baltimore).

Outside of them, keep an eye on fellow wide receiver-needy NFL clubs such as the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, who both check in at +650 to land the Panthers pass catcher. Longshot teams to remember include the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at +900, the Pittsburgh Steelers (+1100) and the Los Angeles Chargers (+1500).
