Can Scottie Scheffler and the U.S. defeat Rory McIlroy and Europe?
Below, we project both rosters for the 2025 edition.
The Ryder Cup tees off at Bethpage Black on Sept. 26, and Team USA is an early favorite across North Carolina sports betting. But rosters won't be official for another couple weeks. Who will captain Keegan Bradley and Luke Donald pick to join locks like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy? And will Bradley still pick himself?
BetCarolina – your best stop for golf betting – has odds on who will make the 12-man roster for each squad fresh off the Wyndham Championship.
To note: The top six on Team USA's point list get automatic spots following the BMW Championship on Aug. 17. The top six ranked players following the Betfred British Masters ending on Aug. 24 will qualify for Team Europe. Each team then has six captain's picks to fill out their respective rosters.

Team USA Ryder Cup Locks: Scheffler, Bryson Lead Way
Scottie Scheffler
Scheffler added the PGA and the Open Championship to his major resume this season, helping him qualify for his third straight Ryder Cup over two months out before the first tee ball is hit. Scheffler went 2-0-1 at the 2021 Ryder Cup in Wisconsin and successfully partnered with Bryson DeChambeau. He wasn't nearly as strong two years ago in Rome, going 0-2-2. That said, this might be the strongest version of Scheffler we've seen yet. Fresh off his four-stroke victory at Royal Portrush, he'll be the favorite for leading points scorer on Team USA at operators like BetMGM North Carolina.
Bryson DeChambeau
After missing the 2023 team in part due to his move to LIV, DeChambeau has earned his way back onto Team USA with his strong major championship play, highlighted by his second U.S. Open title in 2024 at Pinehurst No. 2. His length off the tee should be a massive weapon at the monster that is Bethpage – but who will partner with the two-time major champ? It's likely Bryson is the lone LIV player on the Team USA roster.
Speaking of two-time major winners, Schauffele has long been a lock to play his third straight Cup. While he has not posted a victory yet in 2025, top 10's at The Masters and Open Championship have him firmly in the top six of Team USA rankings. Will his longtime match play partner Patrick Cantlay also make the team? That may be in jeopardy.
JJ Spaun
If you had JJ Spaun as a lock to make the Ryder Cup back in February, you know your way around North Carolina sports betting apps! Spaun with his runner-up at The Players (and last week's first playoff event) and U.S. Open victory at Oakmont is headed to Bethpage, where he'll be one of just a few Ryder Cup rookies, per our projections. Let's see how the 34-year-old Californian performs. While it's difficult to project rookie Ryder Cup nerves, Spaun has earned his way onto the team by playing his best golf at the most pressure moments.
Justin Thomas
Thomas was a controversial pick by then-captain Zach Johnson in 2023, but he's more than likely earned his way on this time around. A runner-up finish to Viktor Hovland at the Valspar eventually led to a victory at the RBC Heritage in April. That win plus Thomas' passion and leadership in the team room has him Bethpage-bound.
Harris English & Russell Henley
English, a member of the victorious 2021 team, has a win this year at Torrey Pines and two major runner-ups (both to Scheffler at the PGA and Open Championship). He would be among one of the more brutal snubs should he not get a spot at Bethpage. He went 1-2 in 2021, partnering with Tony Finau.
Henley, who partnered with Scheffler at last year's Presidents Cup, won the Arnold Palmer Invitational this year and currently sits fifth in the team points race.
Team USA Players On The Bubble
Ben Griffin
Griffin is currently ninth on the points list, and should make the team. Missed cuts at the John Deere and Open Championship had us worried he was going in the wrong direction. Then he posted a T11 at Greensboro and T9 in Memphis to likely earn his spot. The former Tar Heel won the Colonial this summer and then pushed Scheffler at The Memorial.
Collin Morikawa
The two-time major champ has not won this season and has mostly made news for feuding with the media. There's a chance Bradley tells him to stay home this time around. Morikawa entered the playoffs off a missed cut at the Open Championship, and is on his fifth caddie of the year. Still, we imagine Bradley will take him for his elite iron play.
Keegan Bradley
Could he really be a playing captain? We still think so. Bradley played well at last year's Presidents Cup and is up to No. 7 in the world. His win at the Travelers in June made the optics much easier for him to pick himself. However, he likely needs to outplay Chris Gotterup and Cameron Young in the Playoffs to keep the playing captain narrative alive.
Patrick Cantlay
Arguably the most clutch performer on the 2023 team, Cantlay has left himself on the bubble this time around. He is 15th in the team standings, but did post a top 10 in the first FedExCup playoff event in Memphis.
Sam Burns
Scheffler's best friend on Tour and a Ryder Cup veteran in his own right, Burns lost the RBC Canadian Open in a playoff and was in the final group at the U.S. Open at Oakmont. Will that be enough in Bradley's eyes?
Team USA Longshots: Spieth, Gotterup Face Uphill Battles
Jordan Spieth
The three-time major champ is a shocking 26th on the team points list, which means Bradley would have to pass over an awful lot of players to get to him. Spieth hasn't missed a Ryder Cup since 2012 when he was still in college. But he also has just one win since 2022.
The former Rutgers phenom is making a late charge for the roster after winning the Scottish Open and finishing third at the Open Championship. He likely needs one more top-5 to earn his way though. He finished T10 at the 3M Open but didn't play well in Memphis last week.
Cameron Young
The Tour's Mr. 1000 entered the conversation late but with an authoritative first win at the Wyndham. Young has long been an elite ball-striker. But this season he has also been Top 10 in putting. He needs to do more in the Playoffs, but his upside and recent breakthrough has to have caught Bradley's attention. Young made the 2022 Presidents Cup team and was also a slight snub for the 2023 Ryder Cup team, like Bradley.
Still in the mix: Maverick McNealy, Brian Harman, Wyndham Clark, Akshay Bhatia, Daniel Berger, Andrew Novak.

Team Europe Ryder Cup Locks: McIlroy, Rahm Set Pace
Rory McIlroy
Rory will play in his eighth consecutive cup this September and may be the only team member who has actually won a Ryder Cup on U.S. soil (back in 2012). He'll also play as the reigning Masters winner, having completed the career grand slam back in April. With the Open Championship behind him, make no mistake: McIlroy's eyes have turned to Bethpage.
Jon Rahm
He hasn't stamped his ticket as authoritatively as Rory, but Rahm has continued to play high-level golf since his move to LIV after the 2023 Ryder Cup. He challenged Scheffler on the back nine at the PGA Championship and was Europe's top player back in 2021 – the last time it was contested in the U.S. Whatever you may think of his move to LIV, it won't stop Rahm from being ready for Bethpage in two months' time.
Fleetwood has played on the last three Ryder Cup teams, and will always be a legend for his 4-1 performance at Le Golf National in 2018. He suffered a painful losses at The Travelers to Bradley this summer and then Justin Rose in Memphis, but his consistency week-in, week-out make him a lock for the 2025 team. Will he partner with McIlroy like he did in Rome? Time will tell.
Justin Rose
A future Ryder Cup captain, Rose turned back the clock in 2023 with an excellent performance for Donald and co. He followed that up in 2024 with a great effort at Royal Troon for the Open Championship. Earlier this year, he lost his second Masters playoff, this time to McIlroy. Rose hadn't set the world on fire since then, but then stamped his ticket with a win in Memphis just this past weekend.
Ludvig Aberg
It's been an up-and-down 2025 for the young Swede, who did capture his second PGA Tour win at the Genesis Invitational in February. He also had a top-10 at the Masters, though captain Luke Donald surely would like to see a little more consistency. Aberg surprisingly missed the cut at both the PGA and US Open. Regardless, there's no way he is left off this team with his power off the tee and performance in Rome two years ago.
Tyrell Hatton
The rare player who may actually have improved since going to LIV, Hatton will play in his fourth straight Ryder Cup this season. A prolific winner on the DP World Tour, Hatton is knocking on the door of a major championship. He finished T4 at the U.S. Open and was in the mix at the Open Championship before a lackluster Sunday. Hatton also went 3-0-1 in Rome, partnering with Rahm.
Sepp Straka
Straka broke through to make his first team in 2023, and he's taken a leap since. He's won twice on the PGA Tour this season (the AmEx and Truist Championship at Philly Cricket Club) and sits comfortably at sixth in the current points list.
Robert MacIntyre
Very similar to Straka, MacIntyre was a rookie back in 2023 who acquitted himself well. Since, he's gotten a taste for the spotlight – winning the Canadian and Scottish Opens last year and finishing second to Spaun at Oakmont this summer. After arriving in Rome as a couple of question marks, both Straka and Big Shot Bob look like steady Ryder Cup players for years to come.
Team Europe Candidates Who Could Cement Their Case
Viktor Hovland
Hovland has been a bit in the weeds for a man of his talent since the 2023 Ryder Cup, but still managed to win the Valspar this season and played well at the U.S. Open at Oakmont. He would be a stunning omission from the roster if he were not to be picked.
Shane Lowry
A consistent performer across PGAT and DPWT, Lowry is a leader in the team room and has great relationships with McIlroy, Fleetwood and Hatton. If only he could get a victory or two more often for his backers at operators like DraftKings North Carolina sportsbook.
Matt Fitzpatrick
It took awhile, but the three-time Ryder Cupper is rounding into form at the ideal time. Fitzpatrick has posted four straight top-10s in his last four events (Rocket Classic, Scottish Open, Open Championship, Wyndham) and was also T8 at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. He'll need a captain's pick this time around, but we like his chances.
Race For Last Two Spots On Team Europe
Because the 2023 European team was so strong – and because many of the same players are still in good form – this will be a particularly hard team to make. Who among these players will get one of our last two projected spots?
Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard
Name that Hojgaard! Nicolai was a productive member of the 2023 squad, but it's Rasmus who may get the roster spot this time around. Rasmus defeated McIlroy for the Irish Open last fall, then played well on the PGA Tour this season. He also made the cut at all four majors. Sitting 8th in the current points list, he'd be a brutal omission by Donald. Nicolai, meanwhile, is running out of time as he sits in the 20s on the points list.
Aaron Rai
Can the Englishman make his Ryder Cup debut later this year? He's firmly on the bubble but likely needs a win on the DPWT in the next two weeks. A cut-making machine, Rai has only managed two top-10s this season on the PGA Tour, though one recently came at The Wyndham Championship in Greensboro. Rai has been eliminated from the playoffs, however.
Still in the mix: Harry Hall, Thomas Detry, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, Jordan Smith, Sergio Garcia, Matt Wallace, David Puig.
Ryder Cup FAQ
The top favorites to make Team USA based on odds include Scottie Scheffler (100%), Bryson DeChambeau (99.7%), and Xander Schauffele (99.5%). These players are considered locks due to form and world ranking.
As of August 2025, Rory McIlroy (100%), Jon Rahm (99.9%), Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood (98.0%) are the strongest favorites for Team Europe. Ludvig Aberg and Tyrell Hatton are also among the top expected picks.
Ryder Cup teams are chosen based on a combination of qualification points (from PGA and DP World Tours), world rankings, and captain’s picks. Each team typically has automatic qualifiers and discretionary selections.
The Ryder Cup 2025 is scheduled to take place from Sept. 26-28, 2025 at Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York. It occurs every two years and alternates between the U.S. and Europe.
