Whoever said that imitation is the greatest form of flattery must have been a college football fan, as the repetition of team nicknames from Tigers to Wildcats and Bears is a common theme in the sport.
Luckily for fans of the feline family, thereās no shortage of successful teams donning the Tigers nickname on the Football Bowl Subdivision level. Three schools who call themselves āTigersā have won national titles since 2010 ā thatās Auburn, Clemson and LSU. Itās not a trend with great significance for NC sports betting, but itās fun nonetheless.
Out of the 67 schools competing in the modern āPower Fourā conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC), four don the Tigers nickname, including the three aforementioned teams plus Missouri.
This year, oddsmakers from Bet365 have LSU and Missouri atop the Tiger-centric CFP title odds board, at +4000 each to win the national title in the 2024-25 season. Clemson is listed at +6000 and Auburn lags behind at +25000.
Tigers are a very common mascot for colleges and universities to select in the United States. At BetCarolina.com, we not only offer the top North Carolina sportsbook promos, but we put the tigers to the test. Using Sports-Reference.com, we found the win-loss percentages for all colleges and universities in the Power 4, between 2014 and 2023, that use āTigersā as their mascot. We ranked the programs based on win-loss percentages over the past decade.

Who Is The King of the Tigers?
Of the four Tiger-named Power Four schools, Clemson had the most success between 2014 and 2023, with an .852 winning percentage according to sports-reference.com/cfb. The other three schools with a tiger mascot, all in the SEC, followed, with LSU at .694, Auburn at .568 and Missouri at .546 in that span. See our Clemson Tigers football guide for more insight on wagering.
Among the schools, Clemson has the most titles in the CFP era, winning it all in 2016 and 2018. LSU won its most recent national championship with Joe Burrow under center in 2019.
The Tigers of Auburn havenāt won it all since Cam Newton spearheaded a title run in 2010, which was the schoolās first championship since the Tigers split one with Ohio State in 1957. This is the first season in which wagering on college football games is legal in the Tar Heel State; check out our college football betting in North Carolina page for guidance.
Lastly, Missouri has never won a consensus title. Numerous smaller organizations determine their own national champs outside of the CFP and the two major polls ā the Associated Press media ranking and USA Today coachesā poll. But Mizzou does not claim championships from 1960 and 2007, awarded via computer ranking formulas from Poling System and Anderson & Hester, respectively.
Thereās hope that 2024 could be the year of the Show-Me State Tigers, though thereās a lot of football to be played before anyone can lay claim to the first title of the 12-team CFP era. At BetMGM NC Sportsbook, Clemson is the second favorite to win the ACC at +290 odds, behind Miami at +140. Among Tigers in the SEC, the operator has LSU and Missouri at +2000 to win the league and Auburn at +12500.
